You Too Are Called To Belong… and Be Holy

You, me, everyone, all of us are called to belong to Christ Jesus and to be holy.

The Word of the Lord says so – and God knows what he’s talking about. We are reminded of this two-fold call in the Second Reading for this Fourth Sunday of Advent.

“Through him we have received the grace of apostleship, to bring about the obedience of faith, for the sake of his name, among all the Gentiles, among whom are you also, who are called to belong to Jesus Christ; to all the beloved of God in Rome, called to be holy.” (Rom 1:6-7a)

God knows the plans He has in mind for us – plans for our welfare and not for our woe. God wants us to be His (to belong to Jesus Christ) and to be like Him (to be holy.)

And God wishes the same for every person we encounter, a message which was made clear to many at yesterday’s H-E-B Feast of Sharing here in San Antonio, where Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller showed the love of God to those present – men and women whom he touched in more than one way with his caring presence and affectionate displays of love:

The Word of God, Jesus Christ, has something to say to you… and wants to use you to touch others with His love. Take time during this “last lap” of the Advent Season to allow the Lord to speak to you in the depths of your heart.

You will find some useful prayer aids at www.archsa.org/Evangelization in the Advent/Christmas section, as well as on CTSA (Catholic Television of San Antonio) which will air Archbishop Gustavo’s special Christmas message this December 20, 21, and 22 on Prepare The Way, my weekly TV show.
