Holy Innocents Still Die Today

Christ’s birth brought about the death of many innocent children.  Actually, it was not His birth at all that brought this about: it was Herod’s fury and hatred, his insecurity and his inability and unwillingness to welcome a small, itty-bitty little child into his midst. He felt threatened. That’s what brought about the death of these innocent little children.

Not much has changed today.

We need to pray.  We need to pray for children – in their mothers’ womb and once they have been born to the light of day – for their safety, innocence, and well-being in general. Below is a prayer for children that we can say, on this Feast of the Holy Innocents, and everyday.

O Blessed Mother, as you so tenderly cared for the Christ Child, I place my children in your care. Be their Mother and mercifully supply whatever is lacking in me through frailty or negligence. Strengthen them to overcome the corruptions of the world, to resist all temptations to evil, whether from within or without, and deliver them from the snares of the enemy. As our Advocate of hope, obtain for them the grace of loving Jesus and the grace of loving you. May they serve your Son faithfully here on earth, that they may rejoin with you and all the Angels and Saints in Heaven forever. Amen.
