N.E.T.S.: a dynamic, up-to-date, practical, and useful new evangelization training opportunity! Register today!

Are you ready for some new evangelization? The Pope is! And it is urgent:

“A profound crisis of faith… has affected many people… the love of Christ… impels us to evangelize…”

(Pope Benedict XVI: Porta Fidei, 2; 7)

“Even in countries evangelized many centuries ago, the reality of a ‘Christian society’ which… measured itself explicitly on Gospel values, is now gone… We must revive in ourselves the burning conviction of Paul, who cried out: “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel” (1 Cor 9:16).”

(Pope John Paul II: Novo Millennio Ineunte, 40)

I have designed a dynamic, up-to-date, practical, and useful new evangelization training opportunity: N.E.T.S. – New Evangelization Training School! Classes begin this Monday, October 8 (in English) and Tuesday, October 9 (in Spanish) at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center on 2718 West Woodlawn Avenue, San Antonio TX 78228. It’s not too late to register for this exciting program! The registration window is open until this Monday, October 8 at noon (12:00 pm), so act today!

This New Evangelization Training School (N.E.T.S.) will equip you to become what Pope Benedict XVI says the Church needs at this time:

“We see the need for an engaged, articulate, and well-formed Catholic laity endowed with a strong critical sense vis-à-vis the dominant culture and with the courage to counter a reductive secularism which would delegitimize the Church’s participation in public debate about the issues which are determining the future of American society.”

(Pope Benedict XVI: Ad limina address to bishops of the United States – January 19, 2012)

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):

What is N.E.T.S. (New Evangelization Training School)?

In our Archdiocesan N.E.T.S. we will…

• Study key books and Church documents

• Explore the “six sectors calling for a new evangelization” (culture, social sector, economy, scientific and technological research, political and civic life, mass communications)

• Review the relationship of the new evangelization to catechesis, family life, pastoral ministry, and outreach to various groups

• Engage in cultural and media analysis

• Discuss and develop various outreach programs, projects and possibilities using various means, methods and moments for a “great catch!’

• Look at the role and contributions of lay ecclesial movements, apostolates, ministries

and organizations to the Church’s new evangelization

How much do the classes cost?

The registration fee for a 8-class Module is normally $56, but the first 40 registrants of our initial classes will pay only $12. This scholarship, made possible by a grant from the Archbishop’s Appeal, covers nearly 80% of the cost.

What does the cost of the class include?

Light dinner, manual and other materials are included in your registration fee.

What happens if I miss a class or two?

Classes are dynamic and interactive, so attending all sessions is very important. If a class or two is missed, arrangements will need to be made with the instructor in advance. If you are bilingual, there may be an option for you to attend the corresponding session in the other language, but English and Spanish classes will only be similar, not identical.

Will there be another module after this one?

Yes! We are already making preparations for Module 2, also on Monday evenings (for English) and Tuesday evenings (for Spanish), February 4 – May 14. More information will be coming to you soon!

What should I bring?

We’ll provide all your study materials, but please bring a pen, notepad and highlight. Also bring check or money order for your registration fee, payable to “Office for Evangelization.”

Can I invite a friend?

Yes! They must follow the same registration steps outlined above.

Will there be child care?

Not at present, but do let us know your situation for future planning purposes.
